Steve is passionate about promoting personal health and well-being, assisting corporations in developing money saving programs that enhance employee health and productivity, and educating physicians and patients groups in disease prevention. With a unique work and educational background in physical and occupational therapy, Structural Integration therapy, and preventative and corrective exercise, Steve takes a specialized approach in addressing postural issues through creating customized programs combining Structural Integration massage, corrective exercise, yoga, and Feldenkrais techniques to balance body structure and focus the mind.

Performance enhancement psychology is an integral focal point in Steve’s work. He discovered early in his career that long-term positive lifestyle changes were only achieved through the right state of mind. This led Steve to a study of psychology and Thought Pattern Management. He found these tools beneficial in enabling clients to alter self-limiting thought patterns, acquire empowering thought processes, and more effectively accomplish goals.

Steve's education includes an M.S. degree from the California University of Pennsylvania in Injury Prevention, Athletic Performance Enhancement and Health Promotion and a masters in health administration from Weber State University. One-on-one Client Testimonials

John A. Stevens, Massage Therapist, Business Owner

"I completed Steve’s "Structural Integration" sessions to treat my chronic pain and discomfort. I couldn’t be more pleased with the results. I am a painting contractor and I have worked in the industry for over 15 years. As a result of my profession, I had developed pain in my shoulders and joints due to overuse. My left shoulder literally sat 2-3 inches higher than my right side, even when I felt that I was standing straight. I believe that the tension I was holding contributed to headaches that I had been experiencing over the years. Steve’s bodywork virtually repaired years of abuse.

At the beginning of each session, Steve meticulously examined my movements and posture to correct any structural deficiencies. He has a keen eye and an intuitive sense of touch. Structural work is often thought to be extremely painful, but Steve’s techniques are effective without causing significant discomfort. Since completing the structural sessions, my performance as a distance runner has improved as well. I am more aware of my body mechanics and structurally I feel more balanced, which has enabled me to run more efficiently.

I would highly recommend Steve to anyone who is interested in an alternative to surgery or medication. I would also urge anyone who is looking to improve their athletic performance or just to improve their physical and mental well-being.”

Samantha Madsen

"I am a two-time World Champion professional bodybuilder with a Master’s degree in Exercise Physiology. I train excessively as I believe in a diversified training environment but keep my weight training the central focus. In addition to weight training, I run, cycle, roller blade, train in jiu-jitsu, muay-thai, judo, and for simple enjoyment I snow and water ski. With all this activity I definitely don’t stretch enough. Needless to say I sometimes end up with some structural issues concerning muscle tightness, inflexibility, and fascia shortening. This is why Steve Edwards is an integral part of my training regimen. Just as weight training is important for the daily stimulus for adding muscle mass, regular, therapeutic massage is a viable component in keeping my body structurally adept for attaining my athletic goals. Steve has a healing touch which, in my extensive experience as a recipient of many massage techniques with numerous therapists, is an innate quality that is rare indeed. While on his table, his hands upon me, he seems to be as acutely aware of my body’s needs as I am in tune with it during my training sessions. His knowledge in anatomy and muscle function goes without saying. I’m an Exercise Physiologist, therefore I know. And his ability to hone in on an individual’s structural discrepancies is truly keen. I have a set appointment with him every month. You should do the same."

Katherine Peterson, Professional Violinist and Composer

“I received 10 blissful structural integration bodywork sessions from Steve Edwards in 2006. A professional violinist my whole life, I had some challenging issues as a result of repetitive use of muscles and of being out of good postural alignment.

After 10 sessions of structural integration with Steve, my fascia and muscles were stretched and molded into their optimum shapes and positions. Steve works with amazing God-given technique, ease and compassion. He intuits the perfect amount of weight and pressure; I was never in pain or sore from his work. At the end of the 10 sessions, my body was in wonderful alignment from my head to my toes! I had great posture! I felt a greater sense of well being by being in my optimum alignment. The before and after pictures Steve took showed dynamic improvement in my posture and carriage.

In addition to doing bodywork, Steve recommended numerous physical therapy- type exercises for strengthening and toning up. I had the pleasure of taking numerous healing and nurturing yoga classes from Steve at the J.C.C. in Salt Lake City, Utah for about 9 months.

Steve is a healing and compassionate presence. He is an extremely gifted, multi-faceted “Renaissance” healer. He is the Michelangelo of body workers!

Thanks Steve!”

“I found the structural integration work to be very beneficial. I could definitely tell a difference in my skeletal alignment, balance, and freedom of movement from having the work done. Prior to having the structural integration work done, I considered myself to be fairly body aware due my background in fitness. However, poor postural habits that I had been oblivious to became apparent, and I am now in a better position to correct these problems going forward instead of compounding them by persisting in incorrect habits and repetitive actions. Steve was very professional, knowledgeable, and pleasant to work with. I’m certain that I exasperated him with my relentless questions, but he was always patient and willing to provide answers.”

"After ten structural integration sessions with Steve I felt more freedom of movement and better postural alignment than I’ve experienced in years! Steve is extremely knowledgeable about anatomy, physiology and kinesiology, and he communicates this knowledge effectively to his clients, helping them understand how to prevent injury and improve well-being. With his background in nutrition, yoga and athletics, Steve understands both Eastern and Western modalities and has a holistic perspective about health and fitness. He is caring, non-judgmental and very skilled at making clients feel at ease! I give him my highest possible recommendation both for structural integration and as a personal trainer."

Jim Ackerman, President, Utah National Speakers Association

Dear Steve,
Just a note of thanks for the fabulous job you have done—with my help, of course—in restoring my health.

The structural work you did on me over the course of about 10 weeks has made a big difference. Yes, I could see the difference on the wall grid, but the most important thing to me has been the restoration of better posture, better breathing, and ultimately, more energy.

I think I’ve enjoyed a more cheerful outlook and I’ve got to believe that has to do with generally feeling less aches and pains and more pep and vigor. I have also noticed I’m more productive at work, being able to get more done in less time, and having greater stamina that enable me to work longer hours when I need to. I appreciate your extensive knowledge of the body and how it works and I always found our sessions to be enlightening as they were invigorating.

Please let anyone you want see this letter. I strongly recommend your services to anybody who simply wants to feel better in both the short and long run.

Success,

“If you are invested in your health and wellness, and would like to meet a person who can design a program conducive to your best personal health practice, this practitioner is the person I recommend to assist you with your goals.

Steve Edwards uses his complimentary background in anatomy, nutrition, body integration therapy and individual counseling to develop a program unique to your body, mind and specific individualized needs.

When I went to Steve earlier this year, I was struggling with cervical disk problems with radicular pain down my arm as well as reflux that had caused some restriction in my voice and it was also affecting my breathing.

After an extensive medical work-up, Dr. Marshall Smith, who is a speech specialist, recommended that I include massage therapy in my process to improve my health and function. Being a 25 year RN veteran, I liked this idea as I wanted to keep from using a lot of medication and to regain my aerobic capacity and strength.

Steve used a Structural Integration process, and over a ten week period. During this period, he used massage, mind integration skills and designed a yoga practice for strength. He made careful recommendations for activity and how to increase my aerobic training and improve my nutrition and stress management. His program is just simply outstanding.

After the very first session, my voice improved, which I was delighted about as I had been very hoarse for over a year. I could sing again for the first time in a year. Over the ten week period, I also felt a vast reduction in neck pain, in reflux symptoms as well as radicular pain down my arm.

I must say I was very grateful for the work Steve provided for me. I am now going to begin training for the Canadian Ski Marathon, in Montreal, which I have not been able to participate in for the last few years.

I feel that I now have the design for how to work on my health and nutrition, and in the future, I will continue to see Steve when I need a tune-up.

His experience and knowledge of the human mind and body has made a great difference in improving my health and functionality. Before I worked with Steve I was considering surgery for the reflux and cervical disk laminectomy. Now I am doing so much better, again with very little medication.

As my friend, Ben says, Steve is the true “GURU” of the human mind and body. You can ask him anything, and he seems to know exactly what you should do.”

“Steve thanks you for your fine work. It was a wonderful experience to have you work on my tense muscles. You gave me a new lease on life with the Structural Integration work. What a great way to get a tune up after being on the road for 60 years. I really needed it. You have a special talent and I want you to know I am thankful you shared it with me.”

“51 and ‘Feeling Old’”

“Prior to my Structural Integration sessions with Steve, I simply just felt old. I had aches, pains, carpal tunnel, tired, and was Grumpy and Sneezy. I was limited in my range of movement and thought it was ‘just a part of aging’ and I needed to suck it up.

As soon as after the third session with Steve, I noticed I had more energy and gained more flexibility in turning my head, bending over, and reaching for something from an upper shelf. Could I have grown taller? What is this new lease on life? I noticed my posture improved and my wrists didn’t hurt or go numb while I slept at night. I am glad I didn’t take another doctor’s advice to go in for surgery on my carpal tunnel.

On a more private note, I experienced a heightened sensation while being intimate with my husband.

Since everyone says your 50’s are the new 20’s – I believe it. I feel like I am 21 again (only with more sense).”

“Steve is an amazingly well-rounded individual whose vast knowledge in fitness and health care have been very influential in helping me to work towards achieving my goal of better health.

He’s also been very helpful in relieving migraines, stress and tension in my shoulders, and low back. We attended Myotherapy College of Utah together and as a Licensed Massage Therapist myself I know that it’s not always easy to find someone with Steve’s knowledge who also has a nice touch. Often times I’ve found that even with the knowledge if your movements are mechanical and you don’t have an intuitive touch then the massage especially won’t be as beneficial.

As both Steve’s friend and client I can say he is a very caring and professional person. I would and do highly recommend him to anyone seeking to improve their health and well being.”

“I have been working with Steve Edwards for nearly a year now and the results have been very exciting. I had a bone marrow transplant going on 7 years ago and was never really able to regain my former body strength. My immune system was very weakened and I was highly susceptible to every passing cold or flu. I firmly believe that Steve has had a great impact on my body strength from my core out to my arms, legs, and back. In addition I believe that the work has contributed to a much stronger immune system. Steve is the most knowledgeable wellness professional I have ever worked with combining diet, strength building, Structural Integration, and stretching. My posture is better and I actually feel I am taller than when I started. I doubt very much that you would find a more knowledgeable and committed professional to work with than Steve Edwards, and I lend my highest recommendation to him.”

“I am a 43-year-old man who has been fairly athletic in my adult years. I have been doing gym workouts, swimming, snow skiing, and cardio on a fairly regular basis since I was about 27. I consider myself in fairly good shape; but, as I moved into my forties, I had begun to give up hope that I could ever sport my physique on the cover of a male fitness magazine. Instead of a six-pack abdomen, I was fast developing a nice loaf of bread. I also considered my energy levels to be moderate; and beginning to decline. It just seemed harder to go workout; especially when I was not impressed with my results.

Through mutual contacts, I sought the advice of Steve Edwards when I was in need of several follow-up Rolfing sessions. During my first conversations with Steve, I understood that he was as concerned with my overall health as he was the specific purpose of my visits. I realized that Steve could be of use to me in many areas – diet, workouts, bodywork (active stretching, yoga, Structural Integration, massage). I scheduled a few appointments with Steve to see how he and I might work together. Initially, Steve consulted with me on my diet. I consider this to have been the most ‘eye-opening’ of my experiences. By making adjustments to the quality and quantity of various types of food, I saw immediate and impressive results; especially in my mid-section. My energy levels also began to increase and be more consistent; rather than the ‘up and down’ experiences I had been having. Rather than ‘fix’ my situation, Steve provided me with a very important tool – the knowledge to control the way I feel physically and the ability to adjust my weight using the ‘right’ food approach, rather than the ‘no food’ approach.

One of Steve’s first comments about a workout with him was “I will give you the toughest workout with a rubber band and ball.” Of course, I laughed. When I finally worked out with him, I was sore for two days following. Keep I mind that this is a guy that had been religious about going to gym for years. Again, I discovered that by focusing on my body core and on quality of movement, I could exercise more than one body part at a time, work out less, and achieve the same, if not better results. I admit… one of the best reasons to engage Steve, is his overall understanding of the body. During our work, Steve is able to demonstrate relationships within the body in muscle and bone structure that leads to a better understanding of how the body works as a whole. I have been able to use this to self-correct a variety of muscle ailments with stretching exercises or adjustments to my workout routines.

In summary, I work with Steve in several areas – diet, core workouts, and occasional bodywork. At times, I work with him twice a week. I feel very positive about the experience and the education. I have been delighted with the transition in my body, occurring over a four to six month timeframe. I have found my dedication to the regimen, prescribed by Steve, to steadily increase, as I continue to accomplish results.”

“Steve Edwards is amazing at what he does. His knowledge and insight regarding all aspects of health and wellness make him a valuable resource for anyone. "Steve has a spectacular knowledge of a multiplicity of physical fitness disciplines as a certified massage therapist of various types, an expert in structural integration, a yoga instructor (again of various types) and as an exercise and nutritional consultant. He probably has more letters (degrees/certifications) after his name than anyone I've met! With that introduction it is obvious to say that I highly recommend him for determining what may be the best course of action for your rehabilitation."

“I am a 51 year-old male who stands 5’ 10’ and weighs 148 pounds. My body fat percentage is less than 10% and my posture and flexibility have improved significantly from where I began 3 ˝ years ago. Before I began my life-style change, I weighed approximately 200 pounds and had a body fat percentage of 34%. When I met Steve Edwards, I had been working out regularly with another fitness professional for about 6 months and had lost about 30 pounds (the easy part). I was looking to get to the next level. To enable me to reach my goals, I knew I needed the best I could find to help me with my work-out routine, my diet, my stretching and structural alignment. The results achieved with the help of Steve over the past three years speak from themselves.

I would highly recommend Steve Edwards to help you realize the following benefits:

  • A professional assessment of your current fitness and the quality of your diet.
  • Specific varied exercise routines for targeted objectives that get results.
  • Valuable education on how to eat properly, with follow-ups as desired.
  • Professional evaluation of your current body structural alignment with the ability to help you make the changes you want.
  • The proper environment for you to work that enables you to motivate yourself beyond your expectations.
  • Outstanding massage techniques that get results.
  • Focused attention to flexibility that will help you achieve your goals.”

Chris Chen, M.D.

"I have known Steve Edwards as a wellness specialist for the past several years. Participating in his yoga and spin classes, I can vouch that Steve always creates a class that is challenging for everyone in the class, but it is never to the point that it will frustrate people who are less in shape or less flexible. He seems to naturally know how to create a class that is challenging to each person, while encouraging each individual to tune in to their own body to create a personal workout that is most effective for them.

What impresses me more about Steve is his knowledge of biomechanics of the body. Observing other wellness professionals, I have noticed that many of them are NOT aware that the techniques/routines that they placed on their clients are not the best mechanical exercises for their problem. Steve is very careful to create plans for his clients that are individualized to their mechanical problems, needs and ability. I believe his knowledge and insightfulness is largely due to his educational background which includes a master’s program in exercise and sports science, and his training in bodywork and massage. I do not think there is any other professional that motivates more than him and that wants to help his clients get in better shape, feel healthy, and have a better outlook in life overall."

“Steve is a fantastic and incredibly knowledgeable professional. When I came to him last year, I wanted to achieve change in all areas of my body. Steve knew exactly what to do to get me the results I wanted. He is not only an incredible source of information, but he was personable, understanding, and an excellent source of support. I needed to be motivated and encouraged, and Steve did that for me while giving me top-notch guidance.”

“I met Steve when my weight was at an all time high and my self esteem in a consequential slump. I am 5 feet tall and was approaching 140 lbs. My size 12 pants were getting too tight and I was determined that I would never buy a size 14 pants and fit in them. With that kind of a personal goal and during that specific time it seemed that my only option was to never buy another pair of pants again.

I decided to start working with Steve even though I had some reservations. Initially I was concerned that beginning with a wellness professional would mean I would always need to work with them, and then there is my ongoing difficulty parting with hard earned money. I guess in reality I questioned if I was worth the expense. Looking back now, I am embarrassed that I thought so little of myself. I have since come to see working with Steve not as an expense but as a worthy investment.

In the beginning I did not realize what a great find I had made in Steve. Through many experiences with him, I discovered that his passion is in helping people achieve their goals. I knew after my first session that he believed in me. This went a long way to motivate me; one person to really believe. He individualized my training to my specific needs. This eliminated the task of filtering information that did not apply to me, because it was all about me. I spent a significant part of my time with Steve learning how to eat in a balanced and healthy way with a secondary focus on weight training. My results were slow initially as I worked on fine tuning my eating, but once that was in place, everything accelerated.

Steve is a great teacher. I have noted his ability to combine his varied disciplines of yoga, resistance exercise, nutrition and massage into a holistic training approach. I have benefited from what each of his disciplines brought to my table. He has taught me to be introspective, to listen to my body and to respond with respect. This has not only helped me prevent injury, but has resulted in a greater understanding of who I am, and an unexpected but welcomed spiritual development. Steve has focused on helping me become independent in my exercise, in my yoga practice, and in balancing my nutritional needs. Other qualities I have recognized include that he is thoughtful and observant. He is constantly assessing skill retention, and encouraging continued growth and untapped potential. He has become a great friend and confidant.

My body will never be perfect (my hips and rib cage will always be about an inch apart), but I now have a healthy respect for its capacity. I am now 117 lbs, and wear a size 6. My work with Steve was not about dieting or a quick weight loss, but about changing my lifestyle. It has been 3 years since I started working with Steve, and I continue to prove to myself that the changes I’ve made are lifetime changes. As for Steve, I recommend him without any reservation. He is a man with much to offer.”

“It was a typical morning. After a terrible night’s sleep and hitting the snooze button for a fifth and final time, I had just accomplished the daily feat of jumping from bed. I knew my time was limited before I started the familiar commute downtown to S.L.O.C. to begin another exciting day of playing Oracle DBA. I decided to sacrifice 7 precious seconds to step on my scale for the first time in forever. As I stared at the number right below the word “Thinner,” I found myself suddenly wide awake. Not only was the name on the scale a cruel irony, I realized I had to look over my belly to see it. This began a new daily ritual.

Over the next few weeks, I found myself contemplating the state of my health versus where I wanted it to be. I asked myself what was really keeping me from getting there. Was it the sedentary computer job, the rigors of single parenthood, the nagging back pain, the constant exhaustion from lack of sleep, the unending demands on my time, or the lack of know-how? Or, perhaps, it was my habit of doing nothing more energetic than sitting in a movie theater or in a horse’s saddle. Realizing these things could only keep me from my goals if I let them, I made a personal commitment. I was going to get into shape without sacrificing time with my son. To do this, I knew I had to enlist the help of others. I joined the Treehouse in January and recruited a friend to do the hardest part, call me each morning at 5:15am to get me out of bed. After the very humbling initial fitness assessment, I was scheduled to meet with Steven Edwards for an introduction to fitness. We immediately began by setting aggressive but realistic goals. Steve educated me on the nutrition needed to build muscle while trimming fat, giving me a grocery list of easy menu substitutions, and tracking my weekly food intake.

Next, Steve coached me through exercise routines I came to know as my agony and my ecstasy, grueling, yet effective, without aggravating my back. He recommended reputable supplements to boost my metabolism and insisted I stop “sucking caffeine and ephedrine all day.” Steve questioned my lack of muscle flexibility and endurance goals and introduced me to the benefits of yoga and the joy of the various cardio machines that leave my lungs wondering if I recognize the importance of air. Finally, he resorted to confiscating my scale and reevaluating my body fat on a monthly basis to keep me motivated for the long haul.

After months of work, we have been very pleased with the results. I have gone from 34.6% to 20% body fat and have lost 25 pounds. My seemingly unobtainable goal of completing a mini-triathlon has been reached three times. Steve has been there every step of the way, cheering my accomplishments and encouraging new goals. Although I can still be found chowing on popcorn and Ben and Jerry’s ice cream at the movies, I love to prepare healthy meals and snacks for my family and friends. I am excited to hike, mountain bike, water-ski, play ultimate and whatever else time allows with my son. I even arrive to work earlier and more mentally prepared. But it could be argued that the most significant life altering change is my new ability to actually fall asleep in less than 3 hours.

I am grateful for the help Steve has provided with my life changes. He has been knowledgeable and supportive as my motivation has waxed and waned. Steve has provided accountability to my goals while making sure I am independent in my progress. I imagine one day I will actually reach the point of earning my “Thinner” scale back, this time with a clear view of the numbers. I recommend Steve to anyone who is serious about not only looking better, but also living a long and healthy life.”

"I signed up with Steve in July 1999 and continued working with him until March 2000. My program goal was to lose body fat and feel healthier. Some of the tools and skills Steve helped me develop were:

  • The importance of balancing protein, fat, and carbohydrates. Steve helped me to create a form to track my daily meals. We then went over my eating and he provided direction for improvement. The results were that I felt more energetic with the food choices I made. I also felt satisfied and this controlled a lot of my urges to overeat at night. I now have the habit and skills to continue healthy eating.
  • With Steve I also saw the importance of tracking various measurements and taking note of successes. Steve guided me to track weight lifting, my body fat, a mile run, etc. I felt more confident as I noticed each various improvement. I was able to see when I didn’t have the improvement I wanted and set goals to achieve better results.
  • Exercise was a totally different approach with Steve that I had never really tried before. Steve basically taught me everything about resistance exercise, i.e. technique, methods, how to use free weights as well as machines. My muscle mass increased, thus I burned more fat and I lost inches. I could really see a difference in my body shape.
  • Goal setting and planning was also part of how Steve helped me to organize and accomplish my health goals.

Overall results while working with Steve I lost a total of 40 lbs. and 7% body fat. I increased health and energy and mental endurance! I actually hiked the “Y” for the first time!"
